Oh, Where Have You Been, Billy Boy, Billy Boy?

Oh, where have you been, charming Billy? (he answers): I have been to seek a wife, she's the joy of my life, she's a young thing who sth sth sth... (Does anyone know the end of the sentence? something like,) she's a young thing who cannot leave her mother?!

Mother, habibti! Just having her next to my bedside makes me feel everything's gonna be ok. Although she hasn't been able to be around much this time (back problems!) I know she is with me and praying for me and that she won't let anything hurt me!

Where have I been since Sunday? Getting accustomed to being at home! Monday was tough. Tuesday better. Visited my 'friends' at Faire Face: A lovely group of ladies in support of people with cancer. They were nice and 'supportive'. We chatted for a while then I went down to the ahweh for some fresh air, however too hot and humid, but ok.

Today, an LP was scheduled for 10:00 a.m. (LP= the prick in the back). However, upon arrival at hospital, we found out that I needed 2 units of blood for my RBCs were loooow. I hadn't felt any weakness, that's why I felt extra pissed off when I learned that they had to admit me, and that I couldn't take it in the outpatient ward! So, there I was, room 920, for ten frickin' hours! Baseeta, I'm home now, hamdillah. And I can truly say: HOME SWEET HOME!

Hey Hala,

well was starting to look for another more interesting blog so good thing ur back...u must have grown accustomed to these unsudden admissions to AUH! It is hard but had to do it twice myself and every time I thre tantrum shouting I WANNA GO HOME...and the 9th floor staff were so kind not to even try and get into my room when I had one of these fits...

Hala dear,

You know there is a count "Blacula"? A 1972 film which is the negro version of Dracula...

I'll spare you the movie trivia...

Here is the fullest and most fun version I found of Billy boy... But it appears she isn't as young as we'd thought!

Ciao

Oh, where have you been,
Billy Boy, Billy Boy?
Oh, where have you been,
Charming Billy?
I have been to seek a wife,
She's the idol of my life.
She's a young thing,
And cannot leave her mother.

Where does she live,
Billy Boy, Billy Boy?
Oh, where does she live?
Charming Billy?
She lives on the hill,
Forty miles from the mill.
She's a young thing,
And cannot leave her mother.

Did she bid you to come in,
Billy Boy, Billy Boy?
Did she bid you to come in,
Charming Billy?
Yes, she bade me to come in,
And to kiss her on the chin.
She's a young thing,
And cannot leave her mother.

Did she take your hat,
Billy Boy, Billy Boy?
Did she take your hat,
Charming Billy?
Yes, she took my hat,
And she threw it at the cat.
She's a young thing,
And cannot leave her mother.

Did she set for you a chair,
Billy Boy, Billy Boy?
Did she set for you a chair,
Charming Billy?
Yes, she set for me a chair,
But the bottom wasn't there.
She's a young thing,
And cannot leave her mother.

Can she bake a cherry pie,
Billy Boy, Billy Boy?
Can she bake a cherry pie,
Charming Billy?
She can bake a cherry pie,
Quick's a cat can wink her eye.
She's a young thing,
And cannot leave her mother.

Can she make a feather bed,
Billy Boy, Billy Boy?
Can she make a feather bed,
Charming Billy?
She can make a feather bed,
That will rise above your head.
She's a young thing,
And cannot leave her mother.

Can she milk a heifer calf,
Billy Boy, Billy Boy?
Can she milk a heifer calf,
Charming Billy?
Yes, she can, and not miss
The bucket more than half.
She's a young thing,
And cannot leave her mother.

Is she often seen at church,
Billy Boy, Billy Boy?
Is she often seen at church,
Charming Billy?
Yes, she's often seen at church,
With a bonnet white as birch.
She's a young thing,
And cannot leave her mother.

And is she very tall,
Billy Boy, Billy Boy?
And is she very tall,
Charming Billy?
She's as tall as any pine,
And as straight as a pumpkin vine.
She's a young thing,
And cannot leave her mother.

Are her eyes very bright,
Billy Boy, Billy Boy?
Are her eyes very bright,
Charming Billy?
Yes, her eyes are very bright,
But, alas, they're minus sight.
She's a young thing,
And cannot leave her mother.

Can she sing a pretty song,
Billy Boy, Billy Boy?
Can she sing a pretty song,
Charming Billy?
She can sing a pretty song,
But she often sings it wrong.
She's a young thing,
And cannot leave her mother.

How old may she be,
Billy Boy, Billy Boy?
How old may she be,
Charming Billy?
Three times six and four times seven,
Twenty eight and eleven,
She's a young thing,
And cannot leave her mother.

Hala, I don't know you, but through your blog I feel like I do. I have been reading it since I received it by email in a forwarded message. I have been very moved by your humour, your courage, and the incredible friendships that you are surrounded by. A number of times I have thought of emailing you to let you know that I am thinking of you - but I always thought it inappropriate. Especially since I am a total stranger to you!

And yesterday, in Amman while I was there for just the day, by some strange coincidence, I met your brother and his wife at an evening gathering. What a small interconnected place the world is! Your brother said this time I should write - so here I am.

I just wanted to say that there are complete strangers out here who are rooting for you and wishing you a speedy recovery. Stay strong Hala and know that we are all out here sending you positive vibes and our best wishes.

With love
Muna

Ciao Hala,
finally home!!! just in time to fully enjoy your celebrations... Eid is coming isn't it???
I haven't been writing in the blog for few days .... sorry but I am a bit foreign to your tradition and I prefere to "enjoy the show" as an external spectator.
Besides the meaning of the event that I think to know (just about) it is nice to see how you expect and spend these festivities, I "breathe the atmosphere of it" only reading your blog so please keep on writing every details and moments.. am really very interested.
I hope you don't mind if I profit of your e-mail address to send you some funny videos (in a previuos entry you gave it publicly whereby I took the liberty to do it).
Enjoy your celebrations
Talk to you soon
Cristina
